Frequently Asked Questions
I knew first that I wanted to help people heal. Then I heard about Chinese medicine and that with Chinese medicine you take in the whole of someone and their life and approach healing from a truly systemic perspective. This appealed to me deeply. I wanted to connect with people, to have time to listen, and to generate creative solutions. I LOVE what I do!
I have a general practice so I enjoy helping people of all ages and stages of life. I enjoy working with children, teens, adults, the elderly, bodies of different sizes and shapes, different sexual orientations, different cultures, races, different personality types – all are welcome. If I am not very familiar with a particular health condition, I will put in the time to research it very thoroughly. My passion is working with people who are open, interested in holistic wellness and engaged in their own healing.
Most patients new to acupuncture are apprehensive! This is very common. Everyone is greatly relieved and becomes much more relaxed about the process once they have tried it, in other words it doesn’t live up to the worry. When inserting needles there is a bit of a pinching or prick sensation. Rarely is it intense. Once the needles are placed, there is no longer pain. If the pain doesn’t subside rapidly, I remove the needle. Most of my clients rest deeply, or sleep when the needles are in place. It can be surprising how relaxing acupuncture is! For people who are especially sensitive, I use a different type of needle called an acupuncture tack. This is a tiny needle embedded in tape which is ‘taped’ on to acupuncture points. I also use acupuncture tacks for children, because unlike adults they generally don’t want to sit or lie down for very long. Most people assume children will not like acupuncture. In my experience children actually often really enjoy their treatments!
The initial consultation is $160 and is about 2 hours long.
Follow up treatments are $100 and are about 1 ½ – 2 hours long.
I offer a sliding scale where that is a financial hardship.
Yes. I really enjoy making house calls, and can come see patients in Boulder, Lyons, Niwot, Longmont Lafayette, Louisville, Broomfield, Westminster, Erie, Estes Park, and more. This works especially well for people who are homebound (elderly, postpartum care, seriously ill, time challenged etc) I charge an additional $25-75 for house calls.
I am happy to provide documentation for submitting to your insurance company. This includes diagnosis codes, procedure codes, the total amount for treatment, and all the identification information and numbers that insurance needs about me and about you. Payment for the treatment is made up front to me and then reimbursement is made directly to you by the insurance company, depending on your coverage. Generally, insurance companies reimburse for treatment that is related to pain when they cover acupuncture care. Insurance often does not cover the many other conditions that acupuncture is helpful for.
